The #dinosaur/bird link, which wasn’t new per se, was firmly established with his 1969 works. The etymology breaks down as Deinos, “terrible,” and onyx for “claw or talon.” Think Baryonyx and Megalonyx. In my head I always thought it was Deino and nychus, now we all know 😃.
