In 1958, St Ninian's Isle in Shetland was the scene of an incredible discovery. It was the start of the School holidays and a young Douglas Coutts had arrived on the wee island to help with an archaeological dig at a 12th century chapel here. The boy was handed a trowel and sent to dig in a corner, away from the real archaeologists... Before long, Douglas uncovered a slab marked with a cross.
