Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Cuba Oct. 29 as a Category 2 storm after pummeling Jamaica a day earlier as the strongest tropical cyclone of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.

A British woman living in Jamaica has told of her terror as Hurricane Melissa struck.

"Today will be very difficult for tens of thousands, if not millions of people in Jamaica," IFRC's Necephor Mghendi said via video link from Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago.
