Carney will become Canada's prime minister after the governing Liberal Party elected him its leader in a landslide vote.

In a speech after winning the Liberal leadership contest, Mark Carney called the U.S. a 'country we can no longer trust' as he outlined his plans for tackling U.S. tariffs.

Carney, 59, will be taking on the reins of his country at a time when it is locked in a trade war with the U.S., its largest trade partner.
