Tropical Storm Gabrielle nears hurricane strength

At 5 p.m. Sunday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 390 miles southeast of Bermuda. With maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, the system is moving to the northwest at 12 mph.
As of Wednesday morning, Gabrielle was moving northwest at 14 mph and is expected to gradually turn north by the weekend.
Thursday night rains, the remnants of Tropical Storm Mario, have forced the closure of many roads in Death Valley National Park, but the main east-to-west road remains open.

Mudslides during rainy weather in the San Bernardino Mountains on Thursday afternoon prompted road closures and trapped cars.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Gabrielle is forecast to pass east of Bermuda late Sunday into Monday and strengthen into a hurricane.
