Kyle Connor scored the game-winner in the third period for the Winnipeg Jets in a 3-2 pre-season victory over the Calgary Flames on Friday.

Winnipeg’s No. 1 is coming into the 2024-25 season as the reigning Vezina Trophy winner. Hellebuyck raised the bar from an impressive 2022-23 season with even more sparkling numbers. He gave his team a chance to win with 43 quality starts in 60 outings and led all starters with a .921 save percentage.

About the only things we know with certainty for tonight’s final exhibition game of the pre-season is that the Jets will be icing a mostly veteran lineup with Connor Hellebuyck in net. The goal was to have the roster look similar to the one they will open the season with on October 9th in Edmonton.

The Boston Bruins have been at or near the top of the NHL for 16 years. Since the start of the 2007-08 season, they have made the playoffs in all but two seasons. They have won one Stanley Cup and been to the Stanley Cup Finals two other times.

Add that to a strong core group, and the Hurricanes aren’t going anywhere. Carolina is still going to be a force. Carolina is an annual threat for 110 points and that was true before Guentzel was acquired.
