Australian authorities said on Friday they would deploy more police personnel and tighten security measures ahead of pro-Palestine rallies in Sydney and Melbourne on Oct. 6, warning protesters there would be no tolerance of violence.

A pro-Palestine group will proceed with a protest rally in Sydney on Sunday after reaching an agreement with police who had asked a court to block planned protests on Oct. 6 and 7, citing safety concerns for the protesters and the wider community.

The pro-Palestine vigil planned for 7 October will be going ahead after organisers revealed it has become a standing vigil, which does not require a form 1 application. They also revealed that the protest schedule for Sunday has been approved by police after organisers made changes to the route of the procession in last-minute negotiations.

Police have dropped their objection to pro-Palestine protests in Sydney this weekend after a compromise was reached.
