NFL, Week 3 and Cardinals
Digest more
The NFL has five teams named after birds: The Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals. And on Sunday, as part of Week 2 of the 2025 NFL regular season, all five won. It's the first time this has happened since devoted X tracker @RylieKeeves began keeping track in 2020.
A: Seattle's secondary depth did indeed step up on Sunday with Devon Witherspoon and Nick Emmanwori both sidelined by injury, especially newcomer Derion Kendrick, who took over nickel duties and had a key second-half interception in the end zone to end a scoring threat.
That said, the Seahawks aren't at the bottom of the division when it comes to the latest Power Rankings released by Sports Illustrated. They rank 14th after their win over the Steelers, behind the Rams (No. 7) and 49ers (No. 8) but ahead of the 2-0 Cardinals (No. 21).
In the 17-13 season-opening win vs. the Seattle Seahawks, Purdy completed 26 of 35 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions despite having tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Jauan Jennings exit the game early. He threw the game-winning touchdown to backup tight end Jake Tonges with 1:34 remaining in the fourth quarter.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that quarterback Brock Purdy was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday while recovering from a toe injury, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic.
A huge play on special teams helped turn the tide as the Seattle Seahawks beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
