Russia condemned for jet incursions over Estonia at a heated UN Security Council emergency meeting
Estonia and its allies launched a blistering criticism of Russia for flying fighter jets through its airspace last week, calling Moscow out at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday and accusing it of “reckless” and “outrageous” behavior.
A senior Estonian military official said Russian pilots ignored signals from Italian jets during a 12-minute violation of Estonian airspace.
At an emergency UN Security Council meeting, Estonia presented radar images proving Russia’s warplanes violated its airspace, penetrating 10 km and flying 100 km over its territory. Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna called Moscow’s denial “lies” and warned such provocations threaten global peace.
