The Dallas Stars have inched ever closer in recent weeks to the top of the Central Division, and were looking to notch another two points on Tuesday night against the Vegas Golden Knights. While the Stars did take home a 4-3 overtime win, Dallas did lose defenseman Miro Hieskanen to a lower-body injury.

DALLAS — Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored both Carolina goals, the second coming 24 seconds after Dallas’ tying goal midway through the third period, as the Hurricanes beat the Stars 2-1 on Tuesday night. Kotkaniemi was credited with the second goal after the puck deflected off him near the crease from a shot by Sean Walker.

For the first time this season, the Dallas Stars (31-17-1) won a game they were trailing after two periods, completing the comeback and defeating the Vegas Golden Knights (31-15-4) 4-3 in overtime at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday.

In Dallas’ 4-1 home win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night, which prevented the Stars from suffering their first three-game regular-season losing streak under Pete DeBoer, rookies Matej Blumel and Justin Hryckowian made it hard to keep them off the ice.

Matej Blumel and Mavrik Bourque both scored in the opening 20 minutes to help the Stars win on the second night of a back-to-back.
