New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone appears closer to benching shortstop Anthony Volpe ahead of the playoffs.
Brayan Bello will toe the rubber for the Red Sox in the second game of the series. The Yankees will turn to Max Fried for a 4:10 p.m. first pitch.
The Yankees have stuck with Anthony Volpe through thick and thin this year, but according to New York Post baseball insider Joel Sherman, they seem likely to stick him on the bench in October.
The Yankees revealed their September call-ups on Monday afternoon, announcing that catcher J.C. Escarra and left-hander Ryan Yarbrough have been added to the active roster. Yarbrough was reinstated from the 15-day injured list, rejoining the Yankees’ pitching staff for the first time since he suffered an oblique injury in mid June.
The Yankees could substitute Slater for Stanton in left during blowouts/late-game situations, or they could move the latter player to right and have them play simultaneously. They could also start Jasson Dominguez in left, Trent Grisham/Bellinger in center and Stanton/Bellinger in right, while subbing on Slater/Caballero later.
Ahead of the Yankees’ Sept. 11 game, here are guidelines for fans planning to attend as President Trump is scheduled to make an appearance.
