Australia's prime minister said the suspects in the shooting at the Hanukkah event were “motivated by Islamic State ideology.”

Australia continues to mourn those wounded in Sunday's mass shooting at Bondi Beach continue to fight for their lives in hospital.

The attack has been declared a terrorist incident targeting a Hanukkah celebration at a park next to the beach on the first day of the Jewish festival of lights, the force confirmed.

SYDNEY — Hundreds remained on Bondi Beach long after the sun had set Tuesday. Many stood silently beneath the waning moon, police helicopters whirring overhead. Some laid bouquets of flowers, which local stores were giving out for free. All were there to pay tribute to the 15 people killed at a Hanukkah celebration on Sunday.

Australia is mourning 15 people shot dead in the Bondi terror attack, with thousands attending vigils in Sydney and Melbourne.

A man identified by Australian media as 43-year-old Sydney fruit shop owner Ahmed al Ahmed has been hailed as a hero for tackling and disarming one of the gunmen during the attack.
