The New York Yankees are projected to move on from the former franchise shortstop following a major roster move.
Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe was back on the bench again on Monday with José Caballero in the lineup over him.
The Blue Jays effectively hold a five-game lead in the AL East, leaving the Yankees staring at a different route to the postseason.
Chris Kirschner of The Athletic asserted that the best possible first-round playoff opponent for the Yankees would be the Houston Astros, who are a perfect 4-0 against the Bronx Bombers in the playoffs since 2015.
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh hit another major benchmark Sunday amid his historic 2025 MLB season. Raleigh went yard in the first inning as Seattle beat the Los Angeles Angels 11-2. Jose Caballero keeps proving he should be Yankees’ everyday shortstop — even as plan remains unclear
BOSTON — The Yankees got a home run and a terrific run-saving defensive play from their shortstop in Sunday’s 6-4 loss to the Red Sox at Fenway Park. It was another example of what José Caballero can do when given a chance to play regularly, even at short.
Jose Caballero sure looked comfortable at shortstop for the New York Yankees this weekend. Starting all three games against the Boston Red Sox while Anthony Volpe recovered from a cortisone shot in his left shoulder, Caballero recorded an extra-base hit every night, including a long home run in a 6-4 loss on Sunday.
The Yankees added David Bednar and Camilo Doval at the deadline and blended them in the back end of the bullpen with Luke Weaver and Devin Williams, effectively giving them multiple options in the late innings, although Bednar has solidified himself as the closer.
