New data from Ford shows that 80% of charging occurs at non-Tesla stations, like those run by Electrify America, ChargePoint, and EVgo. Adapter hesitation and availability may be to blame.

The company was the first to announce its plans to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector for its EVs, and was also first to distribute NACS adapters to its EV customers free of charge.

Lectron has now fully ramped up production of these new adapters and all of the pre-orders from existing customers have been fulfilled. Ford has gone delivering 60,000 between March 2024 and January 2025 (including a mix of Tesla and Lectron adapters) to 140,000 by March 2025. Ford is now exclusively providing the Lectron adapters.

The addition of Tesla's V3 Superchargers grows the BlueOval Charge Network -- Ford's database of compatible charging stations -- to an estimated 44,000 DC fast charging points across North America. Drivers can find and navigate to those stations via their vehicle's on-board navigation, the FordPass app and, now, Apple Maps EV Routing.

Australia is the latest nation to be hit with “congestion fees” when motorists use certain Tesla Superchargers in peak times.
