After dismissing multiple members of the Kennedy Center board, Trump announced that he would name himself the new chairman of the board. Since then, he discussed the matter at a press conference on Air Force One on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Kennedy Center did not respond to a request for comment. The White House press office sent a link to Trump’s social-media post in response to a request for comment.

The Kennedy Center is run by a 36-member board of trustees appointed by the sitting president, as decreed in the legislation that established it. Each trustee serves a six-year term, meaning that the current board includes some trustees appointed by Trump as well as President Joe Biden.
