A 5.2 magnitude earthquake strikes near Alaska's Aleutian Islands amid rising seismic activity across the North Pacific, including Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula and Southeast Alaska.
A t least seven earthquakes have rattled the coast of Alaska in the last 24 hours, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quakes range in magnitude from 2.5 up to 5.2 and stretch across the southwest tip of the state along the Gulf of Alaska. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Closely monitored Barry Arm is a test case in a region where melting glaciers, steep slopes and narrow fjords set up conditions for dangerous tsunami-generating slides.
