The action was delayed during the middle of the day due to the thick marine layer, but sunshine peaked through later near the Huntington Beach Pier on Friday.

Michele Gile reports from Huntington Beach, where hundreds of people gathered to watch the impressive aerial acrobatics of the Pacific Airshow. The event, however, was met with some backlash from wildlife advocates.

Officials have warned people living in the area to have preparations in place for people and pets who may be disturbed by the sounds.

Elliott, the Pacific Airshow executive director, has always loved aviation. Growing up in the area, he would build and fly remote control airplanes with his own father in the garage and remembers spending plenty of afternoons flying gliders at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.

The Southern California skies will showcase the Pacific Air Show, the largest attended airshow in the U.S., this weekend. The event takes place right on the water's edge of Huntington Beach from Friday, Oct. 4 through Sunday, Oct. 6.
