Nassau County police officers will now be assisting federal authorities with immigration enforcement in what county executive Bruce Blakeman is calling a “big change" that “was sorely needed."

Nassau County police will work directly with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to carry out operations, County Executive Bruce Blakeman announced Tuesday morning. Blakeman said 10 police detectives will work with ICE agents to carry out targeted enforcement in the area.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman stressed this was a "targeted enforcement" against "illegal migrants who have committed crimes." Protesters and advocates are pushing back. NewsdayTV's Macy Egeland reports.
