Planning a joyride on the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Mumbai Metro Line 3 today? You’ll have to wait just a bit longer, as Mumbai’s first fully underground Metro line—flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday—will open for public on Monday at 11 am, with regular operations starting from 6.30 am on Tuesday. It will not open today.

Narendra Modi criticised the previous MVA government for delaying the Metro 3 project for two and a half years, which he claimed increased its cost by Rs 14,000 crore.

There will be nine rakes, undertaking 96 trips each day. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) expects each eight-car train to ferry 2,500 passengers while the headway between two metro trains will be 6.40 minutes. According to an MMRCL official, 48 train captains will maneuver the trains.

The 12.69 kilometre stretch between Aarey Colony and BKC is part of the 33.5 kilometre Colaba-Seepz-Aarey Metro Line 3, which received the final clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) earlier this week.
