California Democrats released a new gerrymandered House map on Friday night that, if implemented, would carve up deep red areas of the state that have been under Republican representation for decades.

A group of masked U.S. Border Patrol agents showed up in trucks outside of the press conference at the Japanese American National Museum.

The actor-turned-governor helped overhaul how California draws political maps. In an interview with The New York Times, he said he would fight to preserve that legacy.

The governor’s new congressional maps would likely make L.A. County bluer, with the biggest changes seen in hard-fought northern districts.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday that his state would hold a special election Nov. 4 to ask voters to approve a mid-decade redistricting plan. Newsom made the announcement after criticizing President Donald Trump and Texas Republicans for intending to redraw that state's congressional map ahead of the 2026 elections to create more Republican-leaning congressional districts.
