Experts say the Greek island of Santorini has been hit by more than 1,000 earthquakes, but they're not linked to the region's active volcanoes.

Earthquakes are still rattling Greece’s volcanic island of Santorini every few minutes. The temblors continued through the night and into Wednesday as authorities bolstered emergency plans in case they herald a larger quake to come.

Authorities have introduced safety measures, including halting construction, shutting schools on Santorini and the nearby islands of Ios, Amorgos and Anafi, and ordering residents and hotels to empty their pools to reduce the burden on the ground.
