An earthquake swept through California’s San Francisco Bay Area yesterday, and scientists say that more could impact the state, potentially with greater severity. Homeowners may be surprised to learn that standard homeowners insurance typically doesn’t cover earthquake damage.

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck in Berkeley, California early Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was originally reported as a magnitude 4.6, but was then downgraded.

WASHOE COUNTY, NV - According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a preliminary 2.1 magnitude quake occurred near Empire Tuesday night.

The highest hazard areas are near major, active faults. But strong and damaging shaking is "possible anywhere in California."
