New York’s congestion pricing started, charging a base toll of $9— motorcyclists get a break —for any non-taxi passenger cars entering Manhattan south of 60th Street. Even before then, though, the official Tolls by Mail New York website posted a warning that it’s aware of a text message scam that attempts to collect personal information by threatening late fees on unpaid congestion tolls.

Driving into lower Manhattan is now more expensive, but the toll promises cleaner air, safer streets, and improved subways.
