The Cubs acknowledged the risk they took trading for the now-injured Michael Soroka following a recent dip in velocity, saying it was a "good bet to make."

Occasionally, MLB executives will acknowledge a deal didn't go their way. Some moves just don't work out and they can admit that. What you never see, though, is an executive publicly regret a deal less than a week after making it.

What makes it even more concerning is that the Cubs knew Soroka had experienced a slight dip in his velocity in his starts leading up to the trade deadline. Soroka underwent an MRI just to rule out anything problematic, with all of the results coming back clean.
