The Union government has appointed Amit Kumar as the new commissioner of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, succeeding Anindita Mitra after her tenure ended. This change aims to revitalize developmental works in the civic body during a challenging financial period.

The order came twenty days after Mitra was given a three-month extension as the MC commissioner. Mitra, however, got the extension a month after she was relieved of her responsibilities and was given farewell and she had joined her new assignment in Punjab.
