Gov. Abbott deploys over 5,000 Texas National Guard troops

Around 4:30 p.m., the Texas National Guard was seen arriving at Alamo Plaza. Earlier in the week, Gov. Greg Abbott announced he was sending more than 2,000 Texas DPS troopers and 5,000 Texas National Guard soldiers to cities around Texas to help local law enforcement amid the protests.
In Texas, the state capitol and capitol grounds were evacuated Saturday afternoon because of a "credible threat against state lawmakers planning to attend" the No Kings protest there, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson.

Opponents of President Donald Trump’s administration are set to rally in nearly 2,000 cities and towns this weekend.
The No Kings events come after days of protests following raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Los Angeles, and Trump’s subsequent deployment of thousands of National Guard and U.S. Marines troops to “temporarily protect” ICE and other federal personnel, along with federal property.
The “No Kings Day of Defiance” was organized nationwide at the same time a military parade will mark the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary in Washington, D.C. The date also coincides with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday as well as Flag Day.
